Ice Cream Updates and More

Big news. I am now pursuing two degrees at Simmons this Fall. In addition to an MA in Gender and Cultural Studies, I will also be pursuing an MAT in Secondary Education. After finding out I passed the Communication and Literacy MTEL, I decided to apply to the dual-degree program. I am excited to see what happens next!

Most of my time has been spent running errands, going to the gym, hitting up dance classes and dog sitting. I have been working at the Comcast Center and the Comedy Connection time and again, but unfortunately have no real summer job.

Now ICE CREAM NEWS/

Lindsay and I need to work out some posts about Oxford Creamery, but in the meantime Lee and I have hit up a few places.

Today we went to a spot I haven't visited in a few years, Erickson's.

Erickson's is on Rt 58 in Carver, right over the line from Wareham. They have a dizzying amount of flavors, traditional ones and wacky ones (Crunchasaurus was one intriguing one). They did have a favorite of mine Coffee Kahlua Brownie which was sensational. However, the brownie to ice cream ratio could be better. I require a lot of brownie chunks. Lee had a typical frappe, chocolate with malt and coffee syrup. Apparently they don't have a traditional frappe machine, so they mixed it in a blender. Lee was disappointed in the ice cream flopped in the bottom. Also, Ericksons is a tad expensive, our bill for a frappe and an ice cream was a whopping $9.10!
Save up before visiting! They also had a pond like puddle in their parking lot. Lame.

Last week, Lee and I also visited a perennial favorite of mine in Wareham. Kool Kone! It was insanely busy for a Monday night, but the weather was gorgeous so I suppose its excusable. My favorite part about Kool Kone is that they have frappes in SIZES. You can get a small frappe which is way more calorie conscious than the typical massive. Not like you care when indulging in a frappe, but its also nicer on the wallet. Lee was tempted by the Jumbo, but he settled by a medium of his usual. They even put in extra malt, and Lee loved it. I got a small dish of coffee with marshmallow sauce. AMAZING. Their marshmallow goo is legit heated up Fluff. It is not runny or drippy like the Friendly's gunk. It is the best, and they give you plenty.

Summer!

Life has been insane, graduating college, trying to find a summer job, and working at the Comcast Center and The Wilbur Theatre.

But I just added something else to my plate, with the help of my friend Lindsay, Ice Cream Adventures.

Lindsay and I are going to spend this summer going to ALL the ice cream places in the general South Coast Massachusetts area. Trust me, there are dozens. Inspired by a traumatic experience at Free Ice Cream Day at the South Dartmouth Friendlys, Lindsay and I are out to find the best ice cream spot around.

The inaugural journey took us to Country Whip in Acushnet, MA.

Country Whip is an ice cream place just on the other side of Rochester, a scenic drive through farms brings you to the goodness that is homemade ice cream and a plentiful selection of soft serve flavors and hard flavors. The Whip was bumping, just as bumping as Free Ice Cream Day. Baffled by the epic assortment of flavors and lured by the waffle cones, Lindsay and I were clearly going to enjoy ourselves.

I went with the Coffee Kahlua Brownie.

EPIC

Lin went with the aptly named WHITE THUNDER. Which is actually pink, white chocolate raspberry filled candy and raspberry goo in vanilla ice cream
.

The waffle cones were huge and we could barely finish them....

Any suggestions for ice cream spots on the south coast as we make our list?

Triumphant Return

I have been away for a long time. I know that's terrible. I am making it a point to post more regularly. I have spent the last several months trying to get my life together and applying to jobs and grad school. Now, here I am with some news in that regard!

Just heard today that I have been accepted to the Gender and Cultural Studies MA program at Simmons College here in Boston! Waiting to hear on Financial Aid, but I am very excited seeing as it is a great program and very much what I wanted.

So quick update on my last few months, in whirlwind fashion: Been spending most of my time in Boston with Lee, working at the Boston Ballet as an intern for their Summer Programs office and as an usher over at the Wilbur Theatre. Lee and I took off to Disney for a few days over Spring Break. And Senior Spring is being very epic. More details...soon!

Blogs and Busyness

I apologize for the lack of posting, since my return from Amsterdam I have been extremely busy working two jobs and taking a class at UMASS. Expect an update when I get the chance to take a breather.

In the mean time I would like to plug Lee's sister Laurel's new blog. She makes me feel bad for not being more fashionable. She just started her own fashion blog, check it out http://modaalalaurel.blogspot.com

Happy Fourth of July!!!

Happy Fourth everyone!

I am spending yet another Independence Day away from the US. Here in Amsterdam you would never know a holiday of such magnitude was happening anywhere, but Laurel, Miranda, Lee and I are celebrating our own way.

Thanfully we have beautiful weather today. Miranda wants to make Mojitos and sit outside. Laurel wants chicken and dumplings. Lee wants cake.

The day started with an epic walking adventure to Dam square for Miranda and I. We were on a pilgrimage to the largest Albert Heijn in the Netherlands, which was a pretty good size on par with an American grocery store. A smaller one of course. Think old IGA size. We had some troubling acquiring confectioner's sugar and mojito supplies, but we managed to scrounge up everything we needed to make this fourth fabulous. We also got to see Darth Vader on the Dam...always a sight to see.

Miranda make homemade tomato soup for lunch and Laurel and I decorated a flag cake seen above. More updated as we continue celebrating..

Hope everyone is having a fun time at home!!

Radiohead and Storms

Currently there is a huge thunderstorm here in Amsterdam, it is pouring rain and thunder and lightning. Very spooky.

Yesterday was the big radiohead concert here in Amsterdam. Unfortunately, Laurel was feeling sick so Lee and I headed to the Westergasfabriek Cultuurpark early and got a spot in line. Fans here in Europe don't line up as early as in America, so Lee and I managed to get a great spot right in front of the stage, about 5 people back. Pretty nice. Of course the venue has been taken over by Live Nation...like everywhere else on the planet. I cannot escape Live Nation. But unlike in America, you have to trade in money for tokens to pay for drinks and food. Which was lame, and tedious. Hopefully, they dont adopt that at the Comcast Center...

The opening band Bats for Lashes was terrible. It was a Bjork knockoff but with people playing four or five instruments per song. Which is way too many, and you never even heard the clarinet or saw...yes saw..being played at any given time. It was painful to wait through, but Lee and I managed to survive. The whole crowd wasnt really feeling it, so there was a huge sigh of relief when they left the stage.

Radiohead was amazing. They had an interesting lighting design that consisted of light tubes all over the stage, which flashed in many colors during the performance. They played all the songs I wanted to hear and there was a great vibe. Thom Yorke was much more happy go lucky than I anticipated, telling jokes and dancing around. it was a great time. They played two encores and even played a new song. Unfortunately, I didnt bring my camera in, so I have no good pictures. But I am sure a quick google search will get me some later :)
